Dmitry Bivol vs Callum Smith Prediction

Editorial preview. The analysis and verdict below are our writers' opinion, not the data model. Records, ages and fight histories in the article come from public reporting at the time of writing, not from our Boxing Data API feed.
Our verdict: Dmitry Bivol to win a clear unanimous decision. Callum Smith is big, brave and a heavy enough puncher to make every round competitive. But Bivol's footwork, jab and timing are the best at 175lbs, and Smith's style gives him little that Bivol hasn't seen before. Add Smith's 22-month absence from the ring and Bivol fighting at home in Yekaterinburg, and we expect the champion to keep his WBA, IBF and WBO belts with something like an eight-to-four or nine-to-three scorecard.

Key factors
1. Bivol's footwork and jab
Bivol doesn't win fights with spectacular moments. He wins by controlling where the fight happens. His jab is quick and accurate, his feet keep him just out of range of the big shot, and he punishes opponents who over-commit with fast two- and three-punch combinations before moving out of range again. That is how he beat Canelo comfortably in 2022 and how he took back the undisputed titles from Beterbiev. Smith tends to set his feet before throwing, and against Bivol's movement that leaves too many openings.
2. Smith's size and reach
Smith has a 6-inch reach advantage and is three inches taller, which is unusual against Bivol. His best chance is to use his long jab to keep Bivol at the end of his punches and then land the right hand and left hook to the body as Bivol comes in. He did exactly that against Buatsi, outworking a strong opponent over 12 rounds. The issue is that Bivol rarely comes in on a straight line, and Smith doesn't have the foot speed to cut off the ring against a fighter this mobile.
3. The Beterbiev comparison
It is natural to compare how they each fared against Artur Beterbiev. Beterbiev stopped Smith in seven rounds in Quebec in January 2024. Smith had good moments early, but the accumulated punishment broke him down. Bivol went 24 rounds with Beterbiev, losing a majority decision and then winning one. Neither man was ever in danger of being stopped. That doesn't decide this fight on its own, but it does show the gap in elite-level defence and stamina between the two.
4. Ring rust
Smith hasn't fought since February 2025, so he will have been out for nearly 22 months by fight night. At 36, that is a long time out for any fighter, and especially so against an opponent whose game is built on timing and sharpness. Bivol, meanwhile, beat Michael Eifert over 12 rounds in May at the same venue. That gives him both recent rounds and familiarity with the setting.
5. Location and judging
This is a home fight for Bivol in Russia. We don't predict scorecards on the basis of where a fight is held, but in close rounds, fighting at home rarely hurts. If Smith is going to win, he probably needs to do it clearly or by stoppage.
How the fight plays out
Smith should be competitive early. He'll be fresh and dangerous, and his reach will make Bivol cautious. Expect some close opening rounds while Bivol works out Smith's timing. From round 4 or 5 onwards, Bivol's movement and jab should take over. He will make Smith miss, land a quick combination and get away before Smith can reply. Smith's work rate tends to fall when his punches aren't landing, and that should let Bivol bank rounds steadily through the middle and late stages. A Smith knockdown or a sudden turnaround is possible but unlikely. A Bivol stoppage is possible only if Smith's layoff shows up badly.
Final prediction
Dmitry Bivol to win by unanimous decision over 12 rounds (around 117-111).
A late Bivol stoppage of a tiring Smith is the second most likely result. Smith's best route is an early knockout before Bivol settles into his rhythm.
